Fatima Bhutto (Urdu: فاطمہ بھٹو), (born 29 May 1982) is a poet and writer who came to fame after the appearance of her first book, a collection of poems, titled Whispers of the Desert. . She is now a columnist for The News in Pakistan. She received notable coverage for her second book, 8:50 a.m. 8 October 2005. Fatima is the granddaughter of former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and niece of Benazir Bhutto, from whom she was estranged. She is active in Pakistan’s socio-political arena,but has no desire to run for political office.
Early life and career
Fatima was born in the capital of Afghanistan, Kabul. Her father, Murtaza Bhutto, was son of former Pakistan’s President and Prime Minister, Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, and her mother is Fauzia Fasihudin Bhutto, daughter of former Afghanistan’s Foreign Affair official. Her father was killed by police in 1996 in Karachi during the premiership of his sister, Benazir Bhutto. Her parents divorced when she was young and Ghinwa Bhutto became her stepmother in 1989. Years later, her mother unsuccessfully attempted to gain parental custody of Fatima.
Bhutto completed her BA degree in Middle Eastern studies [6] from Barnard College of Columbia University,[2][7] after receiving her secondary education at the Karachi American School. She received a Master’s degree in South Asian Studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London [8] She lives with her step-mother Ghinwa Bhutto, and her half-brother Zulfiqar Bhutto Jr. They live at the famous residence 70 Clifton Road in Clifton, Karachi, “Karachi’s oldest and plushest suburb.”
Books
Her book 8.50 a.m. 8 October 2005 marks the moment that brought life to a standstill in Pakistan’s north, as a major earthquake jolted the region from Islamabad to the valleys of Azad Kashmir. Fatima Bhutto visited the affected areas to record and compile inspiring accounts of those affected—victims and volunteers—as a tribute to their hope, courage and resilience in the face of calamity.

Future
Following the assassination of her aunt, Benazir Bhutto, her entrance into politics has been speculated. She has stated that for now she prefers to remain active through her writing, rather than through elected office. However, she actively supports her mother’s chairmanship to the unpopular wing of the Pakistan People’s Party (Shaheed Bhutto Group), which failed to win a single seat in the 2008 elections.

If Bilwal Bhutto has a brain he should say good bye to politics because he is not from Bhutto family he is from Zardari Family.

Yes, FATIMA is the only hope for Pakistan from Bhutto family- she is the real Bhutto by blood and intellect. I am a regular reader of her articles and it’s hard to believe that she can have this oservation and intellect to write these articles in a her young age. Her writings are based on very facts and concern of the welfare of masses is remarkable. But before she walks in to the real field of politics, she has a lot of chalenges to face. Intellectual like Dr. Mubasher Hasan could be a very dependable guide but do not have enogh votes which counts in democracy and the people who have votes are not dependable at all. So please Fatima, take care of yourself first and then politics. We do not want to lose you for nothing. You can lead but lead the nation carefully and wisely. She says that she doesn’t believe politics in the fruity shade of her family……….. One think I should ask her she is moderate or social thought believer but why should she be follower of Hassan Nasrullah??? Some one playing game for imperialism in the uniform of Religion…..

I have no idea why do we have so many dumb asses in Pakistan? My comment is on the people who wrote all these comments.Because what you all wrote here is not about Fatima it’s about Bhutto-ism in Pakistan and a blind faith on the family and politics. You people will never change and your fate is i have no idea maybe worse. God save Pakistan!

A Butto family member with a token college degree from a western college trying hard to get into politics for personal gain. Benazir Bhutto, her aunt is a good example. They have many millions in their bank acct, luxury residence in Dubai, London and Pakistan. Where do you think this money came from? Obviously from the Pakistani Treasury, STOLEN!!!! Be careful another coniving, calculating family member trying hard to wiggle her way up.

i never was a fan of any BHUTTO, infact, i despised them more than anything and anyone else in Pakistan. From the dirty policies,lavish wastage of public money (which the bhuttos think they have a divine right to loot and plunder) and the ever so rampant corruption and ignorance of merit in ever matter related to the dealings of the state, its all there. However, seeing the conduct of Fatima Bhutto, the way she talks, her inquisitive nature and learned personality,i am humbled into admitting that this is the one bhutto that actually can and wants to do something for this country, which, by the way, is in dire need of a real LEADER, a leader who truly understands that “silence is the loudest cry for help”.

For Fatima Bhutto:
Dear beloved,
I pray to Allah for her success as president of Pakistan.
I TELL HER “Best of Luck my dear Fati” and recite a couplet(a shair)that for her;
“Nahien Tera Nasheman Qasr-e-Sultani Ke Gumbad Par;
Tu Shaheen Hai Basera Kar Paharon Ki Chhattanon Par.”
with love and regards,
yours sincerely

It’s most certainly quite interesting to see so many lame comments made by our country’s beloved lay-people and the infamous stalkers who try desperately to get personally in-touch with you, one way or the other. It is however quite sad that your modest quest of bringing out ‘the truth’ about Pakistan’s political, social and economic situation goes over the heads of more than half of the imbeciles who post on your site to gain attention in the hope of winning a chance to personally communicate with you.
On a more serious note, i am an avid critic of Pakistan’s political scenario, which of course is my personal opinion not expressed in any form in public, but i sure wouldn’t mind starting to write about it.
I find you quite brave and in a way admire your courage to talk about the truth in such a bold manner, it gives me great comfort to see that we as Pakistanis have some know-how of how things should be done. Until and unless someone voices their opinion stating facts against the ‘evil establishment’ of our suffering country and countrymen, no one will ever know the truth and the severity of the mess we are forced to dwell in.
In the history of the civilized man only two nations were created purely for one reason only that being religion, Pakistan and Israel. It is quite ironic that even Israel suffers from a corrupt regime of sexually driven maniacs who some how always seem to end up in some sort of a sex scandal. And as for Pakistan our leaders are notorious for being mass murders, con-artists, alcoholics, narcissists, psychologically challenged, short-sighted and in desperate pursuit to deprive their nation with the most basic amenities of life such as water, food and electricity.
While both these countries have a common reason for them coming about into existence, they share another commonality, both are in the most sense that you can make out of the word ‘OWNED’ by the United States. Both are apparent self-proclaimed democracies, but both lack the essence of the philosophy of it. Democracy is a fairly new style of government unsuccessful in most of the regimes it is practiced in, i don’t say that the system is at fault, but what i do say is that average man of Pakistan simply lacks the basics to be able to make the simple choice of choosing its governing body. Reason being lack of education and a divided education system, which separates not only the youth but the whole of Pakistan and creates an artificial barrier amongst the differing educated systems ‘youth’. By creating these artificial new classes we divide our people based on income levels, so we on one hand we have the ‘moderate’ Pakistanis who send their children to the Beacon House School and the likes, and then we have the Pakistanis who lack the knowledge of the benefits derived from education and how it possibly could enrich and improve their lives to a state beyond their contemplation couldn’t care less about education let alone about getting their children educated.
The problems faced by Pakistan are so severe in nature that i personally don’t see this country being able to pull itself out of this unless their comes about a great revolution, the likes of which no Pakistani has ever seen. A complete change, a thorough promise to honestly govern and benefit the people of Pakistan. A new vision to become a welfare state, a secular government one that isn’t fueled by the hate of extremists or ‘wanna-be’ so called religious Molanas who pretend to be the purest of the pure, who are corrupt and vile. Individuals who scar the face of religion, humanity and integrity just so that they can drive around in Land Cruisers with an army of bodyguards boasting their social status and power in front of the weak and helpless.
I think i have managed in fair view to point out the cause of our demise and of my personal opinion about our nation.
God Bless!
